Item Source

This item comes from the estate of the recipient, U.S. Navy Admiral Robert Carney. Admiral Carney spent his later years in Washington, D.C., and passed away on June 25, 1990, at the age of 95. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia . I purchased it from a collection in Virginia.

Robert Carney was a U.S. Navy admiral who made outstanding contributions during World War II and served as Chief of Naval Operations (1953-1955). [Note 1]

According to the U.S. State Department's Office of Historical Documents, Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling received General Carney and his delegation at the Presidential Residence in Taipei on the afternoon of March 3, 1955. The meeting's theme was political issues concerning China, Taiwan, and the United States. I have included a link to the official website for this meeting in my references. [Note 2]

Personal Appreciation

Without getting into politics, I believe both Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek are national heroes of the Chinese nation, fighting against the Japanese invasion. Chiang Kai-shek and Soong May-ling made outstanding contributions to the war. This is why I feel an obligation to preserve the few remaining items of their immense historical value.
